Wanted: a cli program to sync scuttlebutt feeds

I don’t want to run a GUI, or a server. I don’t want a JavaScript app. Something in Golang or Rust.

Calling smartphone equipped teenagers 'digital natives' is a mistake because a smartphone makes you a consumer rather than a native of anything.

If you want a child to become a digital native give them an actual computer instead of a corporate controlled and curated consumer device.

scuttlebutt is such a great idea...

... the reference implementation? not so much

layers and layers of javascript, custom js db, looking around in .ssb it's a huge mess

I wanted to see how hard it would be reimplement it so I could have a cli/emacs client. No info anywhere apart from the fairly high level protocol guide (which is great).

Any cool ways of backing up your private keys? Paper, QR, etc? I remember reading about a way of encoding this type of stuff in a way that could spoken over the phone. But I can’t find anywhere. Preferably something that doesn’t require internet access.

I followed a bunch of photographers on Twitter and inadvertently followed myself into this weird circlejerk where my feed is now like 30% retweets among these people. And it’s all trash photography.

Read through the scuttlebutt protocol and it looks really cool.

when you get a switch for Christmas instead of a Switch.

I'm going to try running my own single-user instance of Mastodon.
